Free social healthcare? Ofcourse its crap. I mean, free access to health by any human being? Sinister! It is an evil that must be suppressed at all costs. Most "christian" conservative republicans from the crazy american south also agree. Jesus said that people should love other people only if they get paid for. Healthcare must run from managers and corporate executives only.~ELLISA

That's probably a reasonable approach, but I'd like to point out that saying "teachers are overpaid" is not so much a consequence of "too many teachers chasing too few jobs" as it is another way to state the underlying problem. Since the pattern/system of human interaction we call the market can't arbitrarily create more demand for teachers (of any quality), either there must be fewer teachers or they must be paid less for supply and demand to reach an equilibrium. At the margin, people usually (though definitely not always) prefer a slightly lower wage for certain to a higher chance of losing their job. But organizations of teachers perceive correctly that neither of these things are in their best interests, at least in the short run, and thus work actively and effectively to both minimize firings and maximize wages. They are of course supported by social sentiment and others interested in the welfare of current teachers. We are thus left with an oversupply of teachers that cannot "naturally" be adjusted, and so in practice we must find political solutions, or academic and institutional ones such as your proposal for higher standards.
